Full description and what we offer

Gatekeeper Defense Training operates a private outdoor range facility in Orlando, Florida where students train under movement, pressure, and realistic defensive scenarios. The difference is clear: no classroom fluff, no paper targets at 7 yards. You're moving, shooting at varied distances, engaging multiple targets, and practicing the decisions you'd actually face.

Practical Pistol Progression

They've structured their core curriculum in three levels:

  • Practical Pistol 1.0 ($195, 4-5 hours) — Foundation for concealed carry holders and shooters wanting to move beyond static range time. Covers grip, stance, sight control, drawing from holster, and live-fire drills. No experience required, but students need to know basic gun safety before arriving.
  • Practical Pistol 2.0 ($225, 5-6 hours) — Intermediate course building on 1.0. Adds shooting while moving, engaging multiple targets, tactical reloads, drawing under stress, and shoot/no-shoot decision-making. Requires prior 1.0 attendance or equivalent proficiency.
  • Practical Pistol 3.0 ($250, 5-6 hours) — Advanced performance-focused training. Emphasizes precision under pressure, varied-distance shooting, target transitions, speed reloads, immediate action drills, and realistic scenario work. Prerequisite: completion of both 1.0 and 2.0.

Specialized Courses

  • Women's Pistol 1.0 ($175, 4-5 hours) — Same defensive foundation as Practical Pistol 1.0, but in a women-only environment. Built specifically for female carriers and new shooters wanting real-world skills in a pressure-free setting.
  • Close-Quarters Pistol (CQP) — Covers repeatable draws, retention holstering, close-range defensive shooting, and presentation under stress.
  • Rifle-Pistol Transitions & Carbine-CQB & Movement — Courses for shooters working with long guns and transitioning between platforms.
  • Florida Concealed Carry Class — CCW permit preparation focused on building confidence in everyday carry and home defense strategy.
  • Private Training — One-on-one or small group sessions tailored to individual skill level, goals, and pace. Available in Orlando, Oviedo, Lake Nona, and Kissimmee areas.

USCCA Certified Instructors — Not just shooting coaches. Real defensive training experience baked into every class.

  • Private Outdoor Range — No distractions, no wait times. Focused training environment in the Orlando metro area (exact locations provided at booking for security/privacy). They partner with trusted facilities in Winter Park, Apopka, and Oviedo.
  • Stress Inoculation by Design — Training happens under movement, from different angles, at varied distances, and under time pressure. This is how you actually perform when it matters.
  • Zero Ego Atmosphere — Explicitly welcome all ages, ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds. Judgment-free instruction. All skill levels trained side-by-side.
  • Hands-On, No Theory — Minimal classroom time. Maximum live fire and real coaching. You'll get corrected on your grip, sight picture, and draw—not lectured about them.

For Pistol courses, bring your semi-auto handgun, appropriate holster (OWB for 1.0 and 2.0), multiple magazines, 150-350 rounds of FMJ ammo depending on course level, eye and ear protection, sturdy belt, and appropriate clothing (closed-toe shoes, long pants, high-cut shirt). Eye/ear protection loaner available if needed.

Instructors may limit participation in advanced drills if a student's proficiency falls short of course standards—this is for safety and to keep pace with the group.
