AmChar Georgia Gun Range and Store

AmChar Georgia Gun Range and Store opened December 2018 with a public grand opening in April 2019. The business started as law enforcement and first responder-only, then expanded to serve the general public in July 2020 while keeping their core mission intact.

The operation sits on 775 GA-42 N. in McDonough and features a 20-lane indoor shooting range that's wheelchair accessible. This isn't a startup—AmChar traces back to 1967 as a retail store in Rochester, NY, and launched AmChar Wholesale in 1980. They've become one of the largest law enforcement distributors in the United States and now operate locations in North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico.

Two tiers:

• •Individual: $299.95/year ($30/month) – unlimited shooting, priority reservations, 10 guest passes annually, free classroom access, lounge with TV and free coffee
• •Family: $399.95/year ($40/month) – same benefits, but covers up to 2 adults and 2 children

AmChar offers both private and group instruction:

Private Classes: $150 for 1.5 hours, tailored to your skill level. Add another person for +$50 and +30 minutes. Firearms and ammunition not included but available for rent ($35 gets you 3 handguns plus ammo).

You can buy new or used directly from the store. They also run a "Shop Used Guns" section online and frequently post store specials.

Law Enforcement, First Responders, Military & Veterans: 5% discount with valid credentials. AmChar still prioritizes this community despite opening to the public.

• •Safety first: Eye and ear protection required at all times. Firearms pointed downrange always.
• •No drawing from holster on the range.
• •Ammunition restrictions: No birdshot, buckshot, steel core, armor-piercing, tracer, or incendiary rounds. Surplus steel cased ammo not allowed (new production only). Shotguns: slugs only.
• •Caliber limit: Nothing over .30-06 Springfield.
• •Max 2 shooters per lane, 1 in the shooting stall at a time.
• •Full-auto: Only under RSO supervision and by appointment.
• •Dress code: Closed-toe shoes recommended, no low-cut tops.
• •No food, drinks, smoking on the range or in the building.
• •Under 18: Must be accompanied by guardian.
• •Impaired persons: Not permitted. Includes drugs, alcohol, or impairing medications.

Cost of violations: Break a cable, that's $100. Damage lighting or electrical? $150. Property damage comes out of your pocket.

Every customer must have an AmChar Range Safety Certificate to enter the shooting range and sign a liability waiver.
