Dead Center Range

Dead Center Range operates a shooting range and firearms training center at 1759 Buford Hwy NE in Buford, GA. They focus on structured instruction rather than casual range rentals—their philosophy is simple: proficiency with firearms requires actual training.

Their core offering is the Basic Handgun Safety and Marksmanship class, a 4-hour course priced at $125 per person. Classes run multiple times weekly:

• •Thursday evenings: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The course covers: - Basic firearms safety rules - Mindset of firearm ownership - Revolver and semi-automatic characteristics - Common handgun action types - Ammunition types and characteristics - Eye dominance assessment - Marksmanship fundamentals - Loading and unloading procedures

All ammunition is provided. Students don't need to bring anything—the range supplies all course materials, firearms, eye and ear protection. You can bring your own handgun and ammunition if you have them, but it's not required. No live ammo in the classroom; all live-fire training happens on the range.

Minimum age is 18 (age waivers available by request). Upon completion, you receive a certificate and 10% discount on additional training or private instruction.

Three NRA-certified instructors teach pistol and rifle:

Tim Downing — NRA Certified (Pistol & Rifle). Three years as an instructor with six years of competitive shooting experience in pistol, rifle, and mid-to-long-range disciplines. Known for breaking down shooting mechanics so new shooters build confidence and understanding.

Anthony Davis — NRA Certified (Pistol & Rifle). Two years as an instructor with Marine Corps infantry background and two combat deployments to Afghanistan. Shooting experience since age six (hunting with family). Works with shooters at all skill levels—complete beginners through advanced.

Tá Pettiford — NRA Certified (Pistol & Rifle). Five years as an instructor. Previously worked as a Glock armorer. Trained families and children in firearm safety fundamentals. Known for combining technical knowledge with approachable, humorous instruction.
