Double H Gunsmithing started the way a lot of good shops do: Ken Barfield with a Clausing lathe, Bridgeport mill, and bluing tanks in an old tobacco barn on the family farm in rural Caswell County. That was years ago. Now it's a full-service gunsmithing operation drawing customers from Maryland to South Carolina with almost no advertising—just word of mouth from folks who shoot and hunt.

Ken Barfield is a professionally-trained gunsmith and custom rifle builder. His precision rifle chops came from attending US Army sniper school in the early 1990s. He graduated from the Piedmont Community College School of Gunsmithing in 2003 and has since repaired, serviced, or built over 12,000 unique firearms. Some of his work has won state championships and set a national record in 2015.
They shoot and hunt themselves. That matters. They know guns because they use them.
Work runs first-in, first-out once your gun physically arrives at the shop. No phone reservations hold your place—the gun has to be there.

Bring your gun unloaded and assembled (when possible). Bring test-fire ammo and at least one magazine. Without them, they can't verify safety after work—or may decline jobs on critical functions. For troubleshooting (failure to feed/fire/extract/eject), bring two full boxes minimum.
Loaded guns: If you walk in with a loaded firearm, you'll be asked to leave immediately and the gun won't be accepted for service. Exception: loaded carry weapons that stay holstered/concealed. Unload before entering.
Models they don't service: RG/Rohm, Bryco, Jimenez, Hi-Point, Raven, Lorcin, Jennings, and certain Savage/Stevens/Remington semi-autos for specific failure modes.
