Full description and what we offer
Arrow One Ranch operates 1,000 acres of managed hunting land on the slopes of Haleakala, roughly 25 minutes from Kahului Airport. The property mixes dense kiawe forest with panini (prickly pear cactus) and rolling terrain that takes about 3 days to fully cover. Since 1999, they've guided hundreds of hunters to trophy axis bucks and Mouflon sheep.
Axis Deer dominate the hunts. The ranch manages several hundred head with strict breeding practices. Hard antler bucks are available year-round—velvet bucks peak late March through early May. By late May through December, most bucks carry hard antlers. Late November into January, bucks shed.
"Axis deer are among the smartest deer in the world. They're cunning and challenging to hunt." - Ranch management
Mouflon & Hybrid Sheep also available. Gold Medal rams (3/4 curl or better) hunted on a 1-day rifle basis.
The ranch is run by bow hunters for bow hunters. Owner Jeff Grundhauser and manager Keoni Grundhauser prioritize the archer's experience. Typical archery shots run 20-40 yards. You might see 200-300 deer on a single day hunt, but the thick cover and smart game make it genuinely challenging. Bring your own archery setup.
Rifle hunters see faster results—99% success rate on trophy bucks in a single day. Recommended calibers: 30-06 or 308. The ranch provides quality scoped rifles free of charge (30-06 for trophies, 243 for doe hunts). Most shots run 100-150 yards.

Taxidermy is limited on Maui, so capes get frozen for transport home. Antlers can be split/cut or boxed and shipped.
The original ranch—called Erehwon ("Nowhere" backwards)—was settled around 1875 by the Vontempsky brothers. The family managed multiple Maui ranches including Ulupalakua and Kaupo. Today, Arrow One continues that ranching legacy with cattle, farming, and trophy hunting.
Scenic location: hunting with Pacific Ocean views from Haleakala slopes. Daytime temps run 80-85°F; mornings cool enough for a light jacket. Expect thick brush, challenging stalks, and year-round excellent hunting weather.

"A quality property to hunt is invaluable. A good guide, worth his weight in gold. A guide that understands the archery dude's needs—even better yet. But to find all three in one place and in one guy is pretty dang rare." - Jeff Klippenes, long-time repeat client
"Arrow One Ranch was the highlight of our trip to Maui. Jeff treated us like family, organized trophy mounting, froze our venison, and left us with lifetime memories." - Jeff Barrow, Cincinnati, Ohio
"I've hunted with Jeff since the ranch went full-time 10+ years ago. The experience just gets better year after year. My days hunting axis deer amid the kiawe trees are among my all-time best memories." - Jay Strangis, bowhunter and outdoor writer
One veterinarian client noted: "Arrow One Ranch has some of the best feed in the islands, reflected in outstanding deer herds and antler growth."
