Own Five Bears Outfitters?
01 // DETAILS
Full description and what we offer
Five Bears Outfitters is a family-run outfit operated by David and Jade Chimo offering backcountry experiences across Idaho and Montana. Their approach centers on quality—from camp cooking to guide experience to trip planning.
Their signature offering is 7-day backcountry elk hunts in Idaho's Unit 10. Hunters access some of the state's most remote public land on horseback or foot, with the base camp situated 15 miles from any road. Small camp size keeps hunting pressure low. They run multiple spike camps providing access to thousands of acres.
2026 Archery Elk Hunts: - Week 1: September 7-13 - Week 2: September 15-21 - Week 3: September 23-29
2026 Rifle Elk Hunts: - Week 1: October 9-15 - Week 2: October 17-23
Pricing: $7,650 per hunter (2 hunters/1 guide) or $8,500 (1 hunter/1 guide). New for 2026: end-of-road elk/mule deer combo hunts available by request.
Idaho is moving to a draw system for tags in 2026. Five Bears has a limited number of outfitter-allocated tags available if you don't draw.
7-day spring hunts offering both bait sitting and spot-and-stalk opportunities. Multiple bait sites available depending on season. End-of-road bear hunts coming in 2026 for the final two weeks of season.
2026 Spring Bear Hunts: - Week 1: May 31-June 6 - Week 2: June 8-14 - Week 3: June 16-22
Pricing: $5,500 per hunter (regardless of whether hunting 1-on-1 or 2 hunters/1 guide)
They offer hunts for Idaho's 10-2 moose tag holders in a very remote unit known for producing big bulls.
Fishing camp sits on the headwaters of a famous blue ribbon trout river (name provided for serious inquiries). Exclusive outfitting rights on the upper 15 miles provide endless walk-and-wade opportunities. The river is predominantly Westslope Cutthroat—ideal for dry-fly fishing. Three high mountain lakes with large cutthroats accessible by short horseback ride. Realistic expectation: 50-fish days with chances at Bull Trout.
2026 Available Dates: - July 5-11 (Open) - July 13-19 (Open) - July 21-28 (2 anglers) - August 15-21 (Open) - August 22-28 (Open)

Trips begin with a 15-mile horseback ride into a remote tent camp. Each angler/hunter gets a canvas tent, with shared communal cook tent, hot shower tent, and latrine facilities. Shore lunches included during fishing. Evening meals prepared fresh at camp. Experienced guides accompany you throughout the day.
Jade Chimo (Idaho Outfitter #24107) manages operations. Small group sizes and remote locations mean these trips fill up—book early.
