Clearwater Outfitters

Clearwater Outfitters has been guiding hunters and anglers through Idaho's Clearwater National Forest since 1964. Owned by Roger and Ginger Haworth since 2005, this family operation runs out of a base camp on Smith Ridge with access to over 160 square miles of pristine National Forest terrain in the Mallard Larkin Pioneer area.

Every hunt follows the same structure: 7 days total with 2 travel days and 5 full days of hunting. Clearwater Outfitters offers:

• •Spring Bear Hunts (April 1–June 30): Over-bait hunts with opportunity to harvest two bears per hunter
• •Fall Bear Hunts (August 30–November 30): Spot-and-stalk or over-bait methods, two bears per hunter
• •Elk Hunts—Archery & Rifle (Archery: August 30–September 30): Calling, spot-and-stalk, and stand hunting on known elk crossings
• •Mule Deer Hunts (October 10–November 3): Glassing open ridges and deep draws, then stalking mature bucks
• •Whitetail Hunts (October 10–November 20): Late-season rut hunts using rattling, calling, and stand hunting
• •Moose Hunts (August 30–November 23): Glassing basins and calling during the rut
• •Mountain Goat Hunts (August 30–November 12): Glassing steep cliffs and high peaks for trophy goats

Both camp options prioritize comfort without sacrificing the wilderness experience:

Base Camp on Smith Ridge: - Wall tents with internal wood frames and woodstoves - Comfortable cots and gravity-fed running spring water - Hot showers available - Dutch oven–cooked camp meals

Backcountry Camps (Dropcamp locations): - Durable wall tents with dirt floors and firewood - Cots for restful sleep - Fully equipped for cooking and camp setup - Remote, game-rich locations

Cook fires fuel more than just hunters. Clearwater Outfitters' meal program emphasizes hearty, homecooked fare—much of it prepared in Dutch ovens using wholesome ingredients. Breakfasts fuel morning hikes; dinners provide recovery after long days glassing ridges and stalking game.
