Full description and what we offer
LH Hunting is owned and operated by outfitter Larry Hatter, who grew up in the family outfitting business in Grangeville, Idaho. Larry and his brother Miles have spent their entire lives hunting and guiding in central Idaho's Bitterroot Mountains, the Nez Perce Clearwater Forests, and surrounding private ranches. What started as childhood work has become a deep knowledge of terrain most hunters will never access.
"Grangeville Idaho will always be home, and I am proud to offer high success hunts in Idaho for the sportsman looking to experience elk hunts, bear hunts, cougar hunts, deer hunts or even wolf hunts."

LH Hunting has maintained a close to 100% success rate for over 20 years on cougar hunts. They hunt one of the largest contiguous mountain lion areas in Idaho, backing directly into wilderness that stretches several hundred miles with minimal human encroachment. The Bitterroot Mountains produce record-book class males at relatively young ages—five or six year-old males often approach record book status. They only take 6-8 mountain lion hunters per year, so booking a year in advance is typical.
Idaho's bear numbers in this region are exceptional, and LH Hunting specializes in color phase bears—roughly 75% of their harvest are non-black colors like blonde, cinnamon, chocolate, and even silvery-highlighted bears. They maintain at least 16 baits running during spring season and offer both bow and rifle setups. Success rates are extremely high whether hunting over bait or with hounds.
They offer both archery (August 30-September 30) and rifle (October 10-24) seasons. Private ranch trophy elk hunts are now available in limited numbers—no more than four per year. Drop camp and lodge-based options are available depending on your preference.
Wolf hunting in Idaho is one of the most intense predator hunts in North America. They recommend 2-5 tags per hunter and hunt December 1 through March when snow makes tracking wolf packs feasible. Methods include calling, spot-and-stalk, or combinations of both.
Silver Mountain Ranch serves as their primary lodge with modern amenities including wireless internet, washer/dryer, and home-cooked meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner included with all hunts). Drop camp options are available for hunters preferring backcountry hunts. The setting is rustic but comfortable—"as a western ranch should be."
Limited availability on premium hunts like mountain lion (6-8 hunters/year) and private ranch elk (4 hunts/year). Book as much as a year in advance for your preferred dates.
The hunting territory spans some of the wildest country in the lower 48. Between central Idaho and Montana (several hundred miles), there's very little human encroachment. This unbroken wilderness produces animals that rarely encounter humans. The terrain produces naturally larger animals through genetics—larger lions, abundant color-phase bears, and trophy bulls.
