Full description and what we offer
The Minnesota Game Breeders & Shooting Preserve Association is a statewide directory connecting hunters with quality shooting preserves and game bird producers. This isn't a single facility—it's an organized network of 20+ preserve clubs distributed across four regions: Twin Cities, Northeast, South, and North Central/West Minnesota.
Hunting preserves have evolved from exclusive wealthy-only clubs into affordable, accessible options for serious hunters. Here's the reality:
As public hunting land faces increasing pressure and private land access disappears, these preserves provide the only practical way for many Minnesota hunters to pass hunting traditions to the next generation.
Member preserves raise and provide:
| Bird Type | Availability |
|---|---|
| Pheasants | Nearly all preserves |
| Chukar Partridge | Most regional clubs |
| Bob White Quail | Selected clubs |
| Hungarian Partridge | Southern/central preserves |
| Mallard Ducks | Premium packages |
| Wild Turkey | Specialty hunts |
Twin Cities Area includes Marsh Lake Hunting Club, Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club (with lodging), and Wild Wings of Oneka—all within 30 minutes offering pheasant, chukar, quail, and sporting clays.
Northeast Minnesota preserves like Bear Creek, Old Vermilion Trail, Wings North, and Udovich Guide Service serve the Duluth, Pine City, and Brainerd regions. Wings North offers the full package: pheasant, quail, turkey, chukar, guides, sporting clays, dining, and lodging.
South-Central features Caribou Gun Club and Traxler's Hunting Preserve—Traxler's is a full-service operation with all bird types, guides, sporting clays, dining, and lodging on-site.
North-Central/West has the largest concentration: American Heritage Hunt Club (both hunting preserve and game bird producer), Bader's Pheasant Run, Rice Creek Hunting (another dual preserve/producer), Midwest Gamebirds, Sand Pine Pheasants, and more.
Many clubs operate as both hunting preserves AND game bird producers—meaning they raise their own birds and control quality from breeding through the hunt.
Member producers have maintained breeding standards since the first pheasants arrived in the U.S. in 1905 (70 pairs). Modern producers focus on:
Beyond bird hunting, most preserves offer:
The association maintains a searchable directory organized by region and filtered by offerings (guides, clays, lodging, dining, specific bird types). Contact Tyler Scott (President) at the Hugo headquarters to request a brochure or get specific recommendations based on your hunting interests.
