Dustin Friday teaches the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course near Des Moines, a comprehensive full-day class designed for shooters starting from zero or looking to formalize their knowledge. The course runs approximately 8-10 hours with both classroom and range time.
You start in the classroom at the Waukee American Legion, then move to a local range—typically Banner Range in Indianola or Olofson Range in Polk City (subject to change). Iowa state range fees run $10/hour.
Class satisfies Iowa's CCW permit requirement. Walk out with a signed completion certificate and detailed instructions for your permit application.
Bring your own: - Handgun (minimum .22 caliber required) - At least 100 rounds of ammunition - Eye and ear protection
Or rent: - $15 pistol rental (ammo included) - .22lr revolvers available upon request
Dustin is a lifelong shooting enthusiast, US Marine Corps veteran, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources range safety officer. The course welcomes shooters of all ages—youth firearm education is a priority.
