Full description and what we offer
MDL Outfitters specializes in hybrid DIY and semi-guided whitetail hunts across Southern Iowa's Zone 5 and Zone 6. Unlike outfitters that keep clients in the dark, MDLO shares assigned farm aerial maps in August, trail camera footage from June through season, and openly discusses setup decisions. You're part of the planning process—which means you understand how they read farms and deer behavior.
All hunting happens on exclusive private access leases ranging from 30 to 450 acres. The neighborhood matters more than acreage—their properties sit in areas with high deer density, minimal hunting pressure, and solid age structure. MDLO intentionally limits clients to 2-3 hunters per week per hunt type, so some farms go a month or more without pressure.
"You just never know what could walk around the tree into view, or even better, in range."
The target is mature whitetail scoring 150" gross B&C and up. MDLO has harvested 200" bucks, hunted 200" deer in 4 of the last 6 seasons, and encountered 25+ "Booner" bucks over 6 years. They prioritize maturity over score—5.5+ years old is the baseline, regardless of rack. Recent success includes 170" 4.5-year-olds and 150" 6.5-year-olds.
Since 2018, they've averaged 2x more daylight encounters under 100 yards than hunters booked—and in 2018 ran a 100% kill rate during all semi-guided seasons.
Prospective hunters complete a questionnaire, review farm options, and sign hunt contracts before booking. Contact Matt at 563-320-6875 for immediate assistance.
