Full description and what we offer
The Iowa Firearms Coalition developed the IFC Educators Academy: Present, Trained, Willing—a research-based response to active shooter threats in schools. Working with Lt. Col. Ed Monk (US Army retired) and Adam Winch of Defenders-USA, IFC created a 30-hour curriculum that starts with historical analysis and sobering threat data: active shooters must be neutralized in the first 30 seconds to one minute to keep victim counts low.
- •Basic tactical movement under pressure
- •Speed and accuracy fundamentals with handguns
- •Trauma medicine and first aid response
- •Deep concealment techniques for educators
- •Post-incident procedures and protocols
Each participant completes a firearms skills assessment before and after training, measuring improvements in accuracy, draw speed from concealment, and precision shooting at varied distances under stress. The data collected helps refine the curriculum and develop streaming educational content for Iowa schools.
18 scholarships are available to Iowa public and private school staff members. The $1,000 course fee and daily lunches are covered. Participants must have or obtain an Iowa permit to carry and bring an appropriate handgun, concealed holster, and 500+ rounds of ammunition.
- •30 hours of instruction over three days (typically August)
- •Day 1: 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
- •Day 2: 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
- •Day 3: 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Each attendee receives lunch daily, plus a steak dinner with a presentation by Ed Monk.
IFC also operates as Iowa's 2A advocacy organization, hosting:
- •Annual 2A Day at the Iowa Capitol (legislative action)
- •Regional gun shows (Iowa State Fairgrounds, Hawkeye Downs, Ottumwa)
- •First responder and self-defense training workshops
- •Fundraising events and PAC dinners with 2A-focused candidates
- •Blog, newsletter, and action center for legislative updates
IFC maintains an action center and email alert system to keep members informed on Iowa 2A rights and legislative developments.
