Iowa Whitetail Outfitters started in 2003 when Brenton—who grew up hunting in Arkansas—partnered with his Iowa native wife Rachel. They began with leased land and hunters staying in campers and motels. Over two decades of hard work and land management, they've grown into a family operation running trophy hunts across Southeast Iowa with owned property, a comfortable lodge, and a reputation for producing mature bucks.
"I have hunted with Iowa Whitetail Outfitters for several years. I have taken both my best gun and bow bucks to date with them. After hunting several states for whitetails, I'd have to say, hands down, Iowa Whitetail Outfitters has the best ground I've ever set foot on for big trophy white tail." — Paul, AL
Hunt Options: - 5-day bow season hunts (additional days available) - 5-day gun season hunts - Farm selection based on deposit date for optimal placement
The Setup: - Heated, enclosed tree stands with minimal disturbance - Managed food plots and mineral sites - Lodge accommodations with home-cooked meals - Direct guide support for tracking and retrieval - Trail camera access to monitor deer activity
They don't charge trophy fees—bigger bucks mean happier hunters and a healthier herd. They enforce a 140" minimum on all farms and 150" on select farms. Young bucks are left to reach full maturity. There's a penalty fee for harvesting immature deer to keep hunters serious about the management policy.
Licensing (Nonresidents): - Hunting license: $131 - Habitat fee: $15 - Deer tags (any-sex + antlerless): $498 - Total: $644 plus applicable fees - Application period: first Saturday in May through first Sunday in June
Ground Rules: - No scouting—farms are pre-scouted and stands positioned for best opportunity - Go directly from vehicle to stand to minimize scent - Call your guide immediately after taking a shot—don't track alone - Use effective scent control (they recommend Scentlok, Ozonics, Scentaway, Mrs. Doepee)
Breton, Rachel, and their four kids run this as a family. The operation emphasizes creating lifelong friendships while making hunting dreams real.
