Council Bluffs Rifle & Pistol Club was founded in 1965 when a group of shooting enthusiasts decided that pooling their efforts could do more for firearm knowledge and skill than practicing alone. A decade later, membership and financial growth allowed the club to purchase 20 acres of land off L-34, which was developed into a covered concrete bench firing line with twenty shooting points.
Targets are fixed at 100 and 200 yards on the covered bench line, with portable target frames available for shooting at shorter distances. Beyond open shooting time for members and their guests, the club regularly hosts organized matches that let fellow shooting enthusiasts compete against one another. Council Bluffs Rifle & Pistol Club is associated with the Iowa State Rifle & Pistol Club and describes its mission as encouraging organized shooting sports and safe, proper firearm handling in the surrounding community.
