Full description and what we offer
River City Rifle and Pistol Club started as a small group of shooting enthusiasts and has grown into a solid community resource for North Iowa. The club's been operating for over 55 years with a straightforward mission: build better shooters through education, safety, and community.
Starts at 2:00pm and runs until dark. A round of trap (25 birds) costs: - $7.00 for non-members - $5.00 for club members - $3.50 for juniors
Shot size must be no larger than 7½. Improved or full choke works best. Summer leagues run May through August with 100 targets per month. League entry is $25 and includes team scoring (3-5 shooters per team). There's a club appreciation shoot with dinner at the end of the season.
Sunday Trap is informal and designed for learning basics. It's open to the public, so bring friends.
Every 2nd Saturday of the month - Registration & sight-in: 8:00–9:00 AM - Match: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM - Classes: Factory, Modified Factory, and Open (up to .30 caliber) - Semi-auto rifles must have brass catcher - All classes require 10-round shot block - Two targets per class with 30 recorded shots for score
Entry fees: - $25 for 1 class - $35 for 2 classes - $40 for 3 classes
Practice starts at 3:00 PM and runs until dusk (weather dependent). Uses Silver Mountain target system from the 300-yard line.
Course of fire: - Prone rapid fire: 2 sighting shots + 10 record shots in 70 seconds - Prone slow fire: 2 sighting shots + 20 record shots in 22 minutes
Rifle calibers: .223 to .308. Bring 44-88 rounds of ammo and a shooting mat. Open to the public.

Newcomers get paired with a sponsor who walks you through the Standard Operating Procedures and shows you how everything runs. This matters because the range operates on an honor system—you're responsible for your own range safety. There's no full-time range officer on duty, which is why the sponsor orientation is important.
New memberships are accepted through the October meeting. After that, new applicants are rolled over to the following calendar year.
The club emphasizes creating an inclusive, secure, and educational atmosphere for shooters of all experience levels—whether you're a competitive shooter, hunter, or just getting started.
