Full description and what we offer
Spearpoint Ranch started as a working grain and livestock operation established in 1990. Steve and Laura Wirth opened the ranch to hunting in 2001 after spending years learning from other operations and developing their own approach. The name comes from their cattle brand—locals call the "bar lazy v" brand a spearpoint because of its shape.
They're not trying to be high-volume. Your group gets exclusive use of the lodge and hunting areas, whether that's 4 people or 20. This means you're not competing with other guests for birds or space.
Spearpoint specializes in personalized guided pheasant hunts for groups of all experience levels. Hunts are catered to each group's needs and preferences—from beginners to experienced hunters. Dogs are welcome if they're well-trained and stay within shooting range (30-40 yards). You can bring your own dog; just know that lodge state licensing prohibits dogs indoors, so you'll need a crate. Hunt trucks have dog boxes built in.
As a nationally recognized NLR and ELR shooting venue, Spearpoint hosts competitive matches throughout spring and summer. Their precision rifle matches run monthly from April through September.
Match Details: - Targets engaged from 10 yards to approximately 1,400 yards - Majority of shots in the 500-800 yard range - Steel targets (no steel core ammunition allowed) - Caliber limit: .300 mag or smaller - Designed for both learning and competition
What to Bring: - Spotting scope and LRF (if you have them) - Bipod or rifle rest (pack, ground pad) - Elbow and knee pads - Ballistics charts or calculator - Binoculars - Eye and ear protection - Towel or blanket for weapon sun protection - Lunch and beverages - Chair (optional)
Spearpoint hosts some of the nation's top firearms instructors for training courses. Private training is also available—contact them directly with your specific needs. Lodging and meals can be provided.
The hunting lodge is a modern ranch-style house with: - Large fireplace - Pool table - Comfortable, clean rooms - Family-style country cooking (three meals daily) - Provided toiletries (shampoo, soap, towels) - No pets allowed indoors (state licensing requirement)
"As a family, we have enjoyed the many, many special memories and friendships we've made since opening the ranch to fellow outdoorsmen." —Steve and Laura Wirth
The ranch sits in scenic North-Central Kansas rolling hills.
If you bring your own dog: - Must be well-trained and controllable - Must stay within 30-40 yards of handler - Will be transported in truck dog boxes (not cabs) - Need a crate if staying overnight - Can't run free around lodge
Wide-ranging or inexperienced dogs bump pheasants out of shooting range and hurt success for your group and others.
