Down Range Products began in early 2012 when founder Todd Ferguson got frustrated with his Hi-Point carbine's factory charging handle—specifically the roller mechanism that pinched his finger. Instead of complaining, he designed his own using his CNC machine shop. It worked. Hi-Point shooters loved it. That single part became the foundation for a full manufacturing operation.

Down Range Products began in early 2012 when founder Todd Ferguson got frustrated with his Hi-Point carbine's factory charging handle—specifically the roller mechanism that pinched his finger. Everything is made in-house on CNC machines. Their current catalog includes 383+ products across several core categories:
Barrel Thread Protection & Adapters - 222+ barrel thread protectors in handgun and long gun configurations - 44 barrel thread adapters (converting between standard threads like 1/2" x 28, 5/8" x 24, metric left-hand, etc.) - Thread protector blanks for custom builds
Barrel Assembly Components - Crush washers (.223/5.56 and .308/7.62 calibers, both steel and stainless) - Barrel jam nuts (hex and standard designs) - Barrel indexing shims and peel washers - Free-float barrel nut shims for AR-15s
Muzzle Devices - .223 muzzle brakes (6-prong design) - .308 muzzle brakes - Flash hiders - Barrel shrouds for Hi-Point, Ruger, and Smith & Wesson platforms
Hi-Point Carbine Upgrades - 60+ Hi-Point specific accessories - Charging handles with O-ring grooves (available in plain, black, red, and green) - Extended charging handles - Picatinny rails - Muzzle brakes and barrel shrouds
"These shims are much higher quality than what most companies from overseas," Ferguson notes. "I've had a lot of gunsmiths comment on how nice they are for indexing barrel accessories."

Down Range Products sold on eBay for 3+ years before launching their own e-commerce site in 2015. They maintain a customer gallery showing installed products: Hi-Point carbines with knurled charging handles, muzzle brakes with custom colors (red handles popular), and barrel shroud combinations.
The operation is small and hands-on. Ferguson personally machines parts and manages customer service. That approach shows in their communication—blog posts are signed by Todd, and the contact form goes directly to his email ([email protected]).
