Full description and what we offer
Sights On Safety teaches the Kentucky Concealed Carry Deadly Weapons permit class that the state requires. It's not a rubber stamp operation—they blend classroom instruction with live-fire qualification on a real range.
Classroom portion (4-5 hours): - Lecture, slideshow, and demonstration - Gun cleaning and safe loading/unloading practice with dummy rounds and SIRT training pistols - 25-question written exam (open book, 70% to pass) - One retest permitted - Zero live ammunition in the classroom
Range portion: - Safe gun handling demonstration - Proper stance, grip, and trigger management - Load, unload, shoot, clear, and make-safe procedures - Live fire qualification: 20 rounds into a B-21 silhouette target at 7 yards - 11 out of 20 hits required to pass (one retest permitted)
"Your safety and learning the proper operation of your handgun is very important. Don't settle for a minimalist class that only touches on some aspects."
You don't need prior experience. You don't need to own a gun or have shot before. You can borrow eye and ear protection. You do need ammunition (available at Walmart, gun stores, or purchased through them for cost).
Basic eligibility: 21+ years old, no felony conviction, no misdemeanor domestic violence conviction, no 2+ DUI convictions in 3 years, no dishonorable discharge. Check Kentucky State Police website for complete requirements.
