NKSSA (Northern Kentucky Straight Shooters Association) operates as a full-service shooting club hosting multiple disciplines and training programs throughout the year. They're member-focused but welcome non-members to most events at day-use rates.
The club runs scheduled events across several shooting disciplines:
- •Trap - Thursday evenings (weather permitting) and Sunday matches
- •5-Stand - Seasonal sport clays shooting
- •Practical Pistol - SCSA format matches on multiple schedules
- •Practical Rifle - Monthly precision and tactical rifle events
- •Silhouette - Seasonal metallic silhouette competition

Weather minimums: Open range requires 40-45°F and no rain. Trap and 5-stand require 45°F minimum.
Eye and ear protection mandatory for all range activities. Permanent metal targets available at all distances—check with RSO before shooting.
NKSSA hosts comprehensive NRA instructor and range safety officer training:
- •NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) - Prerequisite for all instructor certifications; full-day class
- •NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Certification - $75 non-members, free for members; required for range staff
- •NRA Chief RSO (CRSO) - Advanced two-part course; $25 members, $100 non-members; requires current RSO certification
- •CPR/AED Certification - Red Cross certified with additional training; free for members
- •Stop the Bleed - Advanced first aid trauma response course (recommended for all RSOs)
All classes require preregistration through their website.
Monthly membership meetings held Sundays at 1pm feature potluck lunches and a swap table for shooting-related items. NKSSA also participates in the "Old Geezers Trap Shoot"—a monthly regional event (2nd Wednesday, 11am-2pm) rotating between area clubs. New and young shooters are welcome.
Memberships renew annually; 2026 renewals available online with credit card payment. Members receive email alerts for weather cancellations, event additions, and range conditions. The club maintains printable targets and provides Kentucky-approved Hunter Education course links.
