Cold Frontier Training and Tactics delivers pistol, rifle, and specialized courses designed for Alaskan conditions and real-world scenarios. Whether you're new to firearms or looking to sharpen tactical skills, they offer structured instruction with clear learning paths.
Pistol Programs: - Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit (ACHP) - 12-hour certification course covering mindset, tactical principles, marksmanship, and Alaska law. Includes written exam and proficiency evaluation. NICS exempt for firearms purchases and honored in 38 states. Cost: $250. Next date: Saturday, March 28th, 2026. - Red Dot Pistol - Advanced optic work - Low-Light Pistol - Night fighter scenarios - Skill-Builder - Fundamental marksmanship and gun handling
Rifle Training: - Rifle 1 (foundational) - Medium Range Tactical Rifle (intermediate to advanced)
Specialized Instruction: - Bear Defense: Awareness, Avoidance, and Firepower - Medical Interventions & Vehicle Counter-Ambush Tactics - Gun Maintenance & Cleaning - Youth Intro to Firearms and Youth Intro to Handguns
Classes are hosted at SnowShoe Gun Club (40450 Shotgun Dr., Kenai, AK). All courses are now open to the public—non-members pay a $75 range use fee, which can be credited toward same-year membership.
Alaska Administrative Code requires ACHP applicants to pass a written exam and memorize the Four Firearms Safety Rules. Cold Frontier provides study materials before class.
For ACHP and most courses: - Functional semi-automatic pistol (full-size or compact preferred; revolvers and subcompacts permitted but not recommended) - Three magazines - Kydex or leather holster with full trigger guard coverage - Eye and ear protection (electronic preferred) - 250+ rounds minimum (.380 Auto or larger; no rimfire) - Packed lunch, snacks, water
