Full description and what we offer
Briarmarsh Kennels in Indian Village, Louisiana is run by Richard and Jan Meche—full-time dog trainers who got into retrievers to improve their own hunting dogs, then got hooked on AKC and UKC hunt tests. They've since titled multiple Master Hunters, Hunting Retriever Champions, and a Grand Hunting Retriever Champion. Their oldest son earned his hunting retriever championship at 13 and now runs UKC tests alongside his brothers.
They work with 5+ days a week using electronic wingers and zinger launchers that throw live birds—creating realistic hunting scenarios without the guesswork. Dogs are transported in stainless steel Ainley trailers that hold 8 dogs, and they train at multiple locations to fully challenge each retriever.
"We do not try to influence one type of training technique on every dog. They each have their own personality, temperament and abilities."
Unlike kennels that crank through dozens of dogs, Briarmarsh keeps numbers low so your dog gets individualized attention.
Start training around 6 months of age (after baby teeth are gone). Standard contract is 6 months—owners encouraged to attend sessions so you learn to handle your dog.
| Service | Cost |
|---|---|
| Monthly training | $650/month |
| Boarding only | $25/day |
| Standard contract | 6 months |
First month payment due at drop-off, plus current heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, vaccinations, and kennel cough certificate. They sell Dogtra collars on-site—recommended before your dog leaves the kennels.
