The Louisiana Tactical Police Officers Association (LTPOA) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to upholding the highest standards in SWAT units across the state. They operate the Basic SWAT School, a comprehensive 5-day training program for peace officers and active military recently assigned to tactical teams.
The Basic SWAT School runs 50+ hours of intensive instruction and practical training:
Two low-light training evolutions are built into the schedule, with Simunitions available for force-on-force training if students bring their own equipment.
Students must: - Be a peace officer or active military with valid agency ID - Hold POST certification in pistol and carbine - Arrive with zeroed carbines (optic and iron sights at 50 yards) - Provide weapon-mounted flashlights for low-light work - Be physically capable of extended training in adverse conditions - Bring 350 rounds for pistol and 400 rounds for carbine (no "Green Tip" ammunition)

Students must actively participate in all classroom, range, and practical exercises. A passing score of 80% on the written exam is required to earn a certificate of completion (those scoring below 80% receive a certificate of attendance).
Students who violate firearms or CQB safety briefs may be removed from the course.
