Alice's Handgun Training is a specialty focus of Alice's Awesome Adventures, run by Master Maine Guide Alice—an USCCA Instructor and NRA Instructor who teaches absolute beginners, new handgun owners, and people who've never fired a pistol before.
Training follows NRA and USCCA Basic Pistol curricula. The classroom phase covers:
- •Handgun safety fundamentals (no live ammunition in the classroom—it stays in your car)
- •Different handgun types and operation
- •Loading, unloading, and malfunctions
- •Grip, stance, and aiming techniques
- •Safe storage and handgun selection
- •Cleaning and maintenance
- •Mock drills using SIRT laser pistols for hands-on practice without recoil
After classroom work, you take a 50-question open-book written exam. Pass that, and you move to range qualification at an outdoor local range.
You'll fire your first three rounds at 10 feet, then attempt the certification challenge: 5 rounds into each of 4 circles at 10 feet with no time limit. Bring 50 rounds of ammunition and closed-toed shoes, eye/ear protection, and a brimmed hat. Alice provides eye and ear protection if you need it. After qualifying at 10 feet, you can attempt 15 or 20 feet with your remaining ammunition. If you don't own a handgun, Alice can provide one (additional ammunition fee applies).
Pass the exam, participate actively, and qualify on the range—you're certified. That certification works toward a Maine Concealed Carry Permit.

Group classes keep range sessions to 2 people maximum for personalized feedback and safety oversight.
Classes are sponsored through Merrymeeting Adult Education, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education, and Buck's Guns in Lisbon.

- •Concealed Carry and Shooting Fundamentals — Use of Force continuum and quick-response shooting
- •Women's Defensive Pistol — Concealed carry techniques and defensive shooting
- •Legal Use of Force and Making Sense of Concealed Carry — Legal implications of armed self-defense
