Turnpike Ridge Outfitters combines decades of experience with proven methods to deliver high success rates on Maine's fall black bear season. Operating from Salmon Pool Camps—100-year-old sporting camps on the Aroostook River, 30 miles west of Ashland—they've built a reputation for consistent results and memorable hunts.

The operation runs two consecutive seasons: a four-week baited hunt starting the Monday before Labor Day, followed by hound hunting through October.

• •Baited Hunts feature ground blinds set 35-50 yards from active bait sites. Over a full month of pre-baiting and stand prep, they maintain 150+ bait sites across 500,000 acres in northern Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Aroostook Counties—Maine's top three bear-producing regions. They rotate hunters weekly, meaning each Monday feels like opening day.

• •Hound Hunts run mid-September through October. Guides work dogs while hunters listen to the chase and watch Maine's fall colors. All five-day hunts include meals, lodging, and qualified guides for trophy care and meat processing.

Archery stands sit 12-16 feet high, 12-16 yards from bait. Ground blinds work for firearm hunters.

Salmon Pool Camps offer 4 and 6-person cabins on the Aroostook River. Bring a fishing rod—brook trout fishing is excellent and a Maine fishing license is included. The kitchen and dining room keep hunters fed from Sunday dinner through Friday.

All Maine hunts include meals and lodging. NC hunts do not.

"A deposit of half the hunt cost confirms your spot. Remaining balance due in cash or certified check on arrival. Deposits transfer to another hunter if you can't make it."

For permit holders, they offer guided moose hunts in late September and early October across Maine Wildlife Management Districts 1-6. High success rates on North America's largest big game animal.
