Cresap Rifle Club

Founded in 1928, Cresap Rifle Club is a non-profit, member-maintained facility in Frederick, Maryland that remains the sole public outdoor rifle and pistol range serving the Washington, D.C. area. The range operates as a community resource for shooters of all interests—recreational, competitive, hunting, and historical reenactment.

Cresap maintains over 30 shooting lanes with multiple distance options:

• •Pistol range: 10 and 25 yard targets
• •Rifle range: 50 and 100 yard targets
• •Black powder area: Dedicated section for vintage, antique, and modern black powder rifles, plus black powder pistol bench

Target changes happen on the hour, every hour.

The club runs NRA-certified training programs including:

• •NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses (handgun and rifle)
• •Women's Intro to Shooting Course
• •Maryland Hunter Education (free, no fees)
• •Maryland HQL and Concealed Carry certification
• •CMP Clinics

All courses include materials, firearms, and ammunition. You don't need to own a gun to take classes. Certified volunteer instructors keep costs minimal.

The club actively develops young shooters ages 10–18 in both sporter and precision class competition using air rifles (.177 cal) and rimfire (.22 cal).

• •Weekly Sunday practices: 3:30–7:30pm (winter indoors), 3:30–5:30pm (spring/summer/fall outdoors)
• •Competes in CMP-sanctioned local and national-level events
• •Currently maintains roster of 8 members due to equipment and range capacity
