Tactical Self Rescue operates out of West Springfield, offering structured firearms instruction across multiple skill levels. Whether you're getting your first pistol or working on defensive techniques, they've got classes that match where you are.

State-mandated course for FID and LTC registration

If you need to apply for your Firearms Identification (FID) card or License to Carry (LTC) in Massachusetts, this is the course you need. It's a 3-hour evening class ($120) held at their West Springfield location. This satisfies the state requirement before you can even apply for your permits.

Designed for people with zero prior firearm experience. The course covers:

• •Proper and Safe Handling — Muzzle awareness, trigger discipline, situational awareness
• •Weapon Nomenclature — Frame, slide, barrel, trigger, magazine, and ammunition basics
• •Drawing from a Holster — Safe draw and reholster techniques with dry fire practice
• •Aiming and Firing — Stance, grip, sight alignment, and live fire practice
• •Basic Cleaning and Maintenance — Disassembly, cleaning, and maintenance procedures
• •Safe Storage Principles — Legal and practical storage options for home and travel

• •Requirements: Must have LTC, bring your own pistol, provide hearing and eye protection. Does not include ammunition.

• •Cost: $155 (includes $25 range fee) | 6-person minimum | Schedule as a group

Same beginner-friendly approach but for rifles. Covers all foundational rifle handling, defensive shooting basics, legal considerations, and decision-making under pressure.

• •Requirements: Must have LTC, bring your own rifle, provide hearing and eye protection. Does not include ammunition.

• •Cost: $185 (includes $25 range fee) | 8-person minimum | Schedule as a group

8-hour intensive focused on practical defensive shooting skills and legal/ethical considerations. Combines theory with live fire exercises to build confidence under pressure.

• •Requirements: Own pistol and ammo, hearing and eye protection. Weapons inspected before class starts. LTC required.

• •Cost: $185 (includes $25 range fee) | 8-person minimum

Basic defensive rifle training — same 8-hour format as the pistol course. Emphasis on safe rifle handling, defensive techniques, and situational awareness.

• •Requirements: Own rifle and ammo, hearing and eye protection. Does not include ammunition.

• •Cost: $200 (includes $25 range fee) | 6-person minimum | Non-refundable (can reschedule once)
