Applied Tactical Defense teaches Michigan Concealed Pistol License certification the way most people actually need it—without the corporate polish or condescension. Founded on the principle that "we don't carry a gun to take a life, we carry to defend a life," the company focuses on real-world preparedness over checkbox compliance.
The 8-hour state-approved course covers: - Firearm safety fundamentals - Michigan concealed carry laws and use-of-force regulations - Shooting skills with defensive accuracy focus - Scenario-based training in realistic situations
Classes include breakfast and lunch. All training happens at the range with live fire. If you don't own a handgun, rentals are available—just contact them.
Kurt Grashaw leads the team as a USCCA-certified instructor. The feedback from students is consistent: nervous beginners leave feeling empowered. Small class sizes mean personalized feedback, not assembly-line instruction. One student noted she "walked away feeling empowered and informed" after never having touched a firearm before. Another said the course was "very detailed yet laid back."
