Michigan CPL Training Academy in Westland delivers the state-required concealed pistol license instruction in a single day. The class runs 9 AM to 6 PM and costs $97—no experience necessary.

The curriculum focuses heavily on Michigan law and legal use of force, which is where most CPL classes skimp. You'll learn:

• •Universal firearm safety rules and how to clear revolvers and semi-automatics
• •Defensive shooting fundamentals: grip, stance, trigger control, sight picture
• •Legal definitions of reasonable force, deadly force, and when each applies
• •Real scenarios prosecutors actually care about
• •What happens after a violent encounter: adrenaline effects, threat recognition, police encounters, civil liability
• •Holster types, gun safes, and practical gear selection

The day includes a written test, one-on-one shooting coaching, and practical marksmanship drills at the range.

Their specialty is working with new gun owners. If you don't have a pistol, they'll rent one—all calibers from .22 to .45 ACP starting at about $20 (depending on ammo pricing). Range fees and targets add $10. Bring a good attitude, your own gun and ammo if you have them, and snacks for the long day.
