The Oleander Center

The Oleander Center teaches concealed carry in Metro Detroit with one philosophy: a firearm is only as effective as the person handling it. Their CPL Certification class meets Michigan requirements, but it's not a rubber-stamp operation—this is an advanced course with a range qualification test.

To pass, you demonstrate: - Safe firearm handling and operation - Proper loading, unloading, and malfunction clearing - Ability to fire 30 rounds on target

New to guns? Start with their Introduction to Handguns class first. Everyone else enrolls in the 8-hour CPL course.

The curriculum includes developing a personal protection plan, firearm laws and legal use of force, handgun selection, and how to actually apply for your CPL. Price includes the class, certificate, target, and eye and ear protection. Don't own a gun yet? They rent subcompact, compact, and full-size pistols so you train with what actually fits your needs.

Must be 21 or older to enroll.

They treat CPL as a starting point, not a finish line:

• •CPL Refresher Course – For current holders renewing every 3-5 years. Covers legal updates, use of force laws, responsible carrying practices, and defensive shooting technique
• •Firearms Training – Builds defensive shooting skills and real-world application
• •Self-Defense Training – Prevention, threat recognition, and physical response
• •Mindfulness & Meditation – Mental focus and stress management for decision-making under pressure
