Damian Meyer brings real-world law enforcement and tactical experience to firearms instruction. During his Coast Guard career, he served as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, expert boat operator (Surfman), and Officer In Charge of a motor lifeboat unit—spending countless hours training at the shooting range and instructing use of force techniques including less-than-lethal and deadly defensive force.
The core 8-hour CPL course covers everything required for Michigan licensing:
Classroom Instruction (5 hours): - Ammunition knowledge and fundamentals - Pistol shooting basics and shooting positions - Michigan firearms law - Avoiding criminal attacks - Controlling violent confrontations
Range Instruction (3 hours): - Live fire marksmanship development - Fundamental shooting practice
Class cost is $125 and includes refreshments and light lunch. A $25 deposit reserves your seat.
All students receive a one-year free membership to Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO)—a non-profit, non-partisan organization providing quality CPL training materials.
Don't have gear? Meyer brings loaner firearms, ammunition, safety glasses, and hearing protection. You just need to show up.
For those renewing their license or brushing up on fundamentals. Available as group classes or private instruction.
Not everyone wants the traditional classroom setting. Private training covers CPL certification, refresher training, or marksmanship coaching.

As of May 2025, Michigan CPL holders qualify for NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check) exemptions on firearm purchases from federal firearms licensees. This streamlines the buying process while maintaining the thorough background check conducted during initial CPL application and every 5-year renewal.
