Full description and what we offer

Wessel Gunworks is a husband-and-wife operation in Grand Haven, Michigan, founded by Tyler Wessel, a medically retired Air Force veteran with 13 years of service. Tyler spent a decade stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Montana, where he developed serious firearms skills hunting in the Rocky Mountains. He later moved to Cape Canaveral and began formal studies in firearm technology and engineering—now he's enrolled at Sonoran Desert Institute pursuing a bachelor's degree in Firearm Science and Technologies. His wife Toni manages customer service and day-to-day operations.

  • Firearm Cleanings — Deep cleaning and test fire for handguns ($75) or rifles/shotguns ($125)
  • Repairs & Troubleshooting — $50/hour (1-hour minimum) for diagnosis and repair work
  • Parts Installation — $50/hour plus parts cost
  • Barrel Obstruction Removal — $30-$60 depending on severity
  • Scope Mounting — $130 (you supply parts) or $130 + parts cost (they supply)
  • Muzzle Device Installation — $175 for threaded barrels
  • Written Appraisals — $30 per firearm for estate, insurance, or valuation purposes

All services include a test fire with your preferred ammunition before your gun is returned.

This is a one-man gunsmith shop, so timelines vary based on workload. Tyler handles all technical work while Toni manages the front end. Cleaning turnaround depends on how extensive the job is and how many firearms are ahead in the queue. Repairs require troubleshooting first—if parts need to be ordered, timeline depends on the supplier. They keep customers updated on status as requested.

They don't offer traditional warranties, but they stand behind their work with a test fire before returning your firearm and ask you to reach out promptly if any issues arise.

Wessel Gunworks is working toward offering firearm safety classes and training demonstrations on cleaning, storage, and eventually shooting instruction. That's part of their five-year plan, so watch for announcements.

"At the heart of our work is a love for the outdoors, a commitment to quality, and a desire to share their combined knowledge and passion with others."
