““Cavalry Match,” as it kind of leans toward shootingthat you might have done if you were a cavalry trooper in the late 1800s. Itwill take place on the 25-, 50-, and 100-yard rifle ranges; and here are thefirearm requirements:
A centerfire, iron-sighted pistol of any type (semi-auto, revolver, or single shot), along with at least 10 rounds of ammunition for the pistol. No red dots or optics of any kind.
A centerfire rifle with iron sights and a barrel of 20 inches long or less (a carbine). It can be of any type (semi-auto, bolt, lever, pump, single shot, etc.), but must be capable of being easily single loaded and fired. You will need at least 30 rounds of ammunition for the rifle. No red dots or optics of any kind.
Match fees will be $10 for members, $15 for guests. Here isthe course of fire:
Round 1 – Firing from the Horse The course of fire will start on the 50-yard range with 10 rounds fired forscore. The shooter will be seated on a stool and fire unsupported (no bench, noslings). The first five rounds will be fired with the shooter facing the target(shoulders square to the target, legs on either side of stool). The stool willbe turned 90 degrees, and the shooter will fire 5 rounds across their body(shoulders in line with target, legs on either side of stool). And all firingwill be done single-loaded, with ammunition in a pouch on your belt (we providethe pouch). And there is a time limit: 40 seconds for each 5-shot group. Anyshots not taken, or taken after the time limit, will not count.
Round 2 – Dismounted, Kneeling 10 shots with a rifle at 50 yards from the kneeling position, unsupported,single loaded, in 80 seconds. Ammo will again be held in a pouch on theshooter’s belt. Any shots not taken, or taken after the time limit, will notcount.
Round 3 – Prone, Behind your Horse 10 shots fired lying down with a rifle at 100 yards, single loa
