Detroit Archers started in 1924 when Saxton Pope and Art Young visited and decided to form a club. The formal organizational meeting happened in 1928, and Fred Bear—one of archery's most famous names—became the club's first President. Nearly a century later, they're still operating the same way: serious about archery, welcoming to everyone.
The club sits on 31 acres in West Bloomfield with facilities that actually get used:
Modern clubhouse with refreshments during shoots, a TV room, and space for events.
Thursday evenings 6-9pm, Saturdays and Sundays 1-5pm. No reservations needed—you show up and shoot.
You pay once for the entire open shooting period—could be an hour, could be the whole block. Unlike most ranges, there's no hourly meter.
Saturday Archers runs November through March, 9am sessions.
Basic and intermediate instruction using FITA/NFAA/3D targets. All equipment provided. Come as you can—no registration required, just show up 10 minutes early to get sorted with the right bow and arrows. Kids under 16 need a parent or guardian present.
You don't need membership to shoot leagues. Pay per night or commit for the season. Most leagues are $10 for members, $15 for non-members per night.
