Location details and information

The John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center is the official training facility for the USA Shooting National Team, hosting Olympic athletes and developing the next generation of competitive shooters. Since 2019, Hillsdale College has partnered with USA Shooting to make the Halter Center a world-class destination for rifle, pistol, and shotgun sports.

This isn't just a range—it's an athlete development pipeline. The facility trains shooters competing in the Olympics, World Cups, and international championships. Derrick Mein, currently ranked #1 in the world for men's trap, trains here. The center also hosts:

  • Junior Olympic Development Camps (summer, ages 12-20) with instruction from current and former Olympians
  • USA Shooting National Championships in rifle, skeet, and trap
  • International competitions including Para Trap World Cup events
  • USPSA Collegiate Championship competitions

New Nimrod Complex Coming Soon: Indoor/outdoor facility with 30 10-meter air gun lanes, 15 25-meter archery lanes, 24 50-meter outdoor rifle/pistol lanes, and 12 50-foot public pistol lanes.

Classes are taught by experienced instructors and cover:

  • Introduction to Shooting Sports (required for all students) — NRA safety course, firearms history and law, basic marksmanship
  • Rifle courses (all skill levels)
  • Pistol training (competitive and practical)
  • Archery (one-credit course, two hours/week for eight weeks)
  • Constitutional seminars paired with shooting instruction

All classes include safety equipment and instruction. Range is five miles from Hillsdale College campus; many students carpool with instructor assistance.

AcuSport Lodge serves as the main event and classroom building. The facility also features:

  • Four guest cottages (4 bedrooms each with private bathrooms) available for college events, competitions, and overnight guests
  • AcuSport Grille — farm-to-table restaurant with locally sourced menu, open year-round (Tues-Thurs 11 a.m.–7 p.m., Fri-Sat 11 a.m.–9 p.m.)
  • Safety equipment provided for all shooting activities

General Public: - Wednesday–Friday: 10 a.m.–4 p.m. - Saturday: 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

The Halter Center's mission extends to developing informed citizens. Classes and seminars on U.S. Constitutional rights and "intelligent patriotism" complement shooting instruction. The center trains athletes who represent America on the world stage while emphasizing responsible firearms use and democratic principles.
