Mark and Sally Stevens serve as instructors on the NRA's National Coach Development Staff, teaching 16-hour NRA/USAS Level 1 Shotgun Coach certification courses throughout Minnesota. These courses run Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm followed by an 80-question open-book test (1.5-2 hours), then Sunday 8:00am-5:00pm. Classes have been held at:
Successful participants earn their NRA Level 1 shotgun coaching certification—the credential needed to formally coach youth shooting sports.
The Minnesota Youth Shotgun Association organizes a chain of four youth-only, ATA-registered target shoots per year. Competitions run at different locations across Minnesota:
| Location | Address | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Monticello Sportsmens Club | Monticello, MN | 100-bird Singles + 100-bird Handicap |
| Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club | 3322 12th St SE, St Cloud, MN 56313 | 100 16-yard ATA targets |
| Watertown Gun Club | 13802 30th St, Watertown, MN | 100-bird Singles + 100-bird Handicap |
| Lester Prairie Sportsmen's Club | 3548 180th St, Lester Prairie, MN | 100-bird Singles + 100-bird Handicap |
Chain Shoot competitions award prizes across four youth categories:
Classes within each category are determined using a computerized Lewis-class program designed for mySA by Ron Baker. This system means everyone has a legitimate chance to win—it's not just top-tier shooters taking home prizes.
The annual Minnesota Youth Day invites Minnesota youth shooters—as individuals and teams—to compete during the Minnesota State Shoot in their own dedicated event. The Minnesota State AIM Championship is a 100-bird team event.
The Association actively participates in shooting sports education beyond Minnesota:
mySA supports the Conservation Career Fair & Shooting Sports Invitational at Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic in Schaumburg, Illinois—a half-day training combining conservation and shooting sports topics for youth competitors and coaches.
The organization also presents at state habitat meetings, including the Nebraska State Habitat Meeting in Kearny, NE, where they conduct shooting clinics.
