Joe Hastings is a US Concealed Carry Association Certified Instructor, NRA Certified Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer, and graduate of the FBI Regional Firearms Instructor School. He's the instructor behind Minnesota Gun Class's Rochester location—part of a statewide operation that's earned the trust of over 50,000 Minnesotans.
The Minnesota Permit to Carry course is split into two sessions: classroom and range time.
- •Classroom Session covers:
- •Handgun safety, handling, and maintenance
- •Handgun components, mechanics, loading/unloading
- •Shooting fundamentals: grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control
- •Legal and ethical responsibilities of carrying concealed
- •Personal safety strategies
- •Physiological reactions to violent encounters
- •Legal use of force in self-defense
- •Legal aftermath and consequences
- •State carry laws and reciprocity
- •Gear selection and concealed carry options
- •Range Session is a short qualification phase where you apply skills under supervision. It's not designed as an in-depth training session—the focus is demonstrating you can safely fire a handgun.
Need to borrow a handgun for the class? Rental is $10 and includes ammunition.
Successful completion makes you eligible to apply for the Minnesota Permit to Carry, recognized in 33 states. Your permit is valid for 5 years. The class also satisfies requirements for a Florida Permit (valid 7 years), which you can apply for by mail.
