The Adair County Sheriff's Office administers concealed carry permit applications and renewals at the courthouse in Kirksville. This is the official government agency responsible for issuing Missouri's 5-Year CCW permits to county residents.
Missouri enacted concealed carry laws on August 28, 2007. The current regulations are codified in Chapter 571 (Weapons Offenses), subsections 571.101 through 571.126 and 571.205 through 571.230 of Missouri Revised Statutes. The Sheriff's Office enforces these state requirements for all Adair County applicants.
You must meet ALL of these criteria:
First-time applicants must demonstrate firearms safety knowledge by completing ONE of these options:
The Sheriff's Office does not maintain a list of approved instructors. Contact local gun stores or search online for available firearms safety courses in the area.
CCW appointments are scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM (excluding holidays).

First-Time 5-Year Permit: $100 (includes fingerprint fee)
Renewal 5-Year Permit: $50
No-Charge Services: - Address changes within Adair County - Name change notification (within 30 days) - Replacement of lost/stolen/destroyed permit (within 7 days) - Moving into Adair County from another Missouri county (notification within 30 days)
Late fees apply if you miss statutory deadlines for renewal, county transfer, or name changes. Active duty military deployed or incapacitated personnel may qualify for special grace periods.
If you move out of Adair County, you must notify the Sheriff's Office in your NEW county within 30 days. That Sheriff will contact Adair County to transfer your records. Provide your updated driver's license showing your new address as proof.
If you move within Adair County only, there is no charge for address updates.
Notify the Sheriff within 7 days of losing or destroying your permit. Submit a written statement describing the loss/destruction. The replacement permit will contain the same personal information and expiration date as the original. No charge applies if reported within the 7-day window.
If your name changes, notify the Sheriff within 30 days. Provide your updated driver's license or non-driver's license showing your new name. The Sheriff will issue a corrected permit at no charge.
Missouri's 5-Year CCW permits are recognized in multiple states. Check the Missouri State Attorney General's Office website for the current list of reciprocal states that honor Missouri permits.
