The Missouri Sheriffs' Association offers a Basic Firearms Instructor Course designed exclusively for law enforcement professionals. This isn't a shooting class—it's a course that teaches you how to instruct others.
August 21–25, 2023
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with evening range sessions Cost: $325–$600 Location: Jefferson City, MO POST# 10532 (approved for POST firearms specialist licensing)
Class size is limited to 20 students due to the hands-on, interactive nature of the training.
The course covers pistol and shotgun training with emphasis on the instructor's role, not the shooter's fundamentals. Topics include:
- •Range management and operations
- •Lead and hearing safety protocols
- •Range safety procedures
- •Analysis and correction of shooter problems
- •How to teach others proper technique as a law enforcement professional
You must already have the skills before you arrive:
- •Licensed Peace Officer or law enforcement employee (pre-approval required)
- •Advanced working knowledge of pistol and shotgun
- •Already trained and qualified in both weapons
- •Excellent mastery of safe weapons handling
- •Physically capable of performing police combat shooting courses
