Full description and what we offer
Montana Elk & Trout operates two base locations—Livingston and Belgrade—with licensed outfitter operations (MT License #25224) across multiple ranches in central Montana. The core hunting territory spans over 32,000 acres of mixed terrain: timbered draws, sagebrush flats, aspen bottoms, and agriculture-rich lowlands. This is not a day-trip outfit. They run multi-day hunts with comfortable lodging and prepared meals built into every package.
Cottonwoods Hunt covers five ranches totaling 32,000+ acres with heavy timber, sage flats, and aspen-lined bottoms. High bull-to-cow ratios mean multiple daily encounters, especially during the rut. Hunters can call, stalk, or work from blinds depending on conditions and preference.
Fox Creek Ranch is 12,000 acres of grassy hills and dense timber, just 10 minutes from the lodge. Agricultural lowlands and high bull numbers make this a go-to during peak season. Same hunt styles—calling, stalking, blinds—all work here.
Specialty Hunts round out the calendar:
| Game | Duration | Group | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring Black Bear | 3–4 Days | 2x1 | From $1,500 |
| Antelope (Archery/Rifle) | 2 Days | 2x1 | From $1,500 |
| Cow Elk | 2 Days | 2x1 | From $1,500 |
Montana Elk & Trout guides fly-fishing trips on two distinct waters:
Blue Ribbon Float Trips on the Madison and Yellowstone Rivers. These legendary streams are catch-and-release only. Year-round fishing with nymphing and streamers in cooler months, dry fly during summer hatches.
Walk & Wade Trips hit secluded creeks and rivers—narrow streams to wider channels—all trout-rich. These trips move at a leisurely pace with a mid-day lunch break. Better for families or anglers wanting to escape crowded water.
Montana fishing licenses are required: $10 conservation license, 2-day ($56), or 10-day ($86). Purchase in advance at fwp.mt.gov or on arrival.
The newly built lodge and guest cabin feature queen bunks with adjoining baths or king beds with private baths. Spacious common room with views of the Crazy Mountains and a fireplace for evening wind-down. A private chef handles meals—hearty, home-cooked, and tailored to dietary needs and allergies.
Lodging is included in hunt pricing. Fishing trip pricing varies by trip type.
Six guides run operations:
All are locals with years in the field. When not guiding, they're hunting, fishing, or exploring Montana backcountry.
