Old Sage Outfitters operates out of a rustic lodge near Martinsdale, Montana (312 Findon Ln, Route 12), just under two hours from Bozeman, Billings, or Helena. Matt Bennett took over ownership in 2025 after 10 years guiding for the previous operation—J&J Guide Service. The core stays the same: experienced guides, quality service, and serious attention to building memories that stick.

Old Sage leases tens of thousands of acres of private land across general hunting units. Elk herds carry healthy cow-to-bull ratios. Guides scout pre-season to locate animals and pattern movement. Archery hunters might find themselves in a tree stand over water or between a screaming bull and a guide working a call. Rifle hunts blend long-range glassing with traditional spot-and-stalk.
Three renovated guest bedrooms (2 hunters per room, private baths). An onsite cook provides hot breakfasts, hearty dinners, and field lunches to keep you hunting longer. Martinsdale, Harlowton, and Two Dot are nearby for supplies or a night out.
Guides include Matt Bennett (owner) and Adam Kaufmann (camp manager). Both spend most of their time outdoors and build lasting client relationships.
Old Sage provides bedding, towels, and all meals. No need to bring food unless you have dietary restrictions.

Guides and cook work hard to create memorable experiences. Tips typically range from less than 20% to 20% of total hunt cost. Include the cook in your tip calculation.
"Some guests tip as high as 20% of the total cost of the hunt and some tip less for the same great service. We only ask that you consider what works for you."
Lodge accommodates single hunters to groups of eight. Old Sage welcomes both experienced hunters and those earlier in their passion.
