Blue River Hunting

Blue River Hunting LLC is run by Tom Koch, an experienced Midwestern hunter who specializes in deer, turkey, and goose hunts. The operation is based in DeWitt, Nebraska—right where Southeast Nebraska meets Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. All hunts take place on private land with no high fences, using fair chase methods only.

The property combines farmland, dense oak timber, ponds, creeks, and rivers. This mix creates ideal conditions for trophy whitetails, Eastern turkeys, and late-season geese.

Lodging & Meals: - All hunts include first-class lodge accommodations - Deer hunts: lodging + 2 evening cooked meals - Turkey hunts: lodging only (no evening meals) - The lodge sleeps 7, has heat/AC, full kitchen, washer/dryer, WiFi, and outdoor grill - Located 10-40 minutes from hunt locations

Getting There: - Fly into Omaha Eppley Airport (OMA) – 1.5 hour drive - Or Lincoln Airport (LNK) – 40 minute drive - Meet your guide at breakfast, get dropped at your hunting location

Not available: Peak rut season, November 12-20. Nebraska's rifle season coincides with peak rut when mature bucks are actively chasing does and fighting. Bucks average 130"-150" with top-end potential of 170"-180". The operation does not shoot anything smaller than a mature 4x4. Booking is limited due to high demand and short season.

Early September hunts offer chances at velvet bucks. The dense oak timber and numerous water holes provide key stand locations. Late October and November offer pre-rut and rut hunting over waterholes and food sources.

October 28 - November 15 archery hunts bridge early season and peak rut.

Second rut happens throughout December. Success depends on weather—cold and snow produce the best hunting of the year. Unlimited permits available. The operation has planted numerous food plots and grain fields for this late-season hunt. Most hunts use heated box blinds.

Blue River has large flocks of Eastern turkeys, with success rates near 100%.

Spring Season Timing Matters: - April hunts: Birds are grouped up. Expect blind/box blind hunting without spotting while calling - May hunts: Flocks have split. More call-and-locate hunting. Choose May if you prefer moving vs. sitting all day

The Big Blue River provides open water even in harsh conditions. Wintering goose numbers are substantial. Contact for pricing and details on January/February hunts.

Most hunts use heated Shadow Hunter box blinds, mobile ladder stands, or pop-ups depending on location and season. The operation also stocks Texas Hunter Feeders and supplemental feed options at their showroom.
