Cornhusker State Games hosts an annual .22 rifle prone competition sanctioned by the National Rifle Association. The event welcomes shooters of all skill levels and experience—NRA membership is not required to compete.

Shooters choose their class based on equipment and experience:

  • •Hunter Class – Any out-of-the-box hunting rifle with iron sights. Shooters may use slings, mats, and spotting scopes only (no shooting coats or gloves).
  • •Match Class – Any rifle 9.5 lbs or less with iron sights.
  • •Open Class – Any rifle with any sight configuration.

Within each class, competitors are placed into divisions:

Competition consists of 40 rounds total (two 20-round strings), plus sighters at 50 yards. Each string gets 20 minutes; sighters get 5 minutes. Competitors use the official NRA A23-5 target.

No coaching or spotting allowed during competition. Shooters hang their own targets.

  • •Equipment Requirements: Bring 6 binder clip-type paper clips. All rifles must be capable of single-shot loading. Semi-automatic rifles must have someone available for malfunctions.

Open class competitors receive an NRA temporary scorebook for classification purposes (no NRA card required).

Custom Cornhusker State Games medals (gold, silver, bronze) go to the top three finishers in each division.
