Androscoggin Valley Fish & Game Association has been managing outdoor recreation in the Androscoggin Valley for over a century. What started in 1920 continues today with the same core mission: preserve outdoor experiences for future generations while maintaining safe, accessible facilities.
The range is located at 229 E Side River Rd in Milan, NH (Coos County), about 34 miles from Berlin. Here's what shooters have access to:
- •Rifle & Pistol Range with 25, 50, and 100-yard backstops
- •Trap Shooting every Tuesday starting at 5:00 PM
- •Archery Shoots every Thursday at 4:00 PM
- •Paper and sticker targets only at backstop bases—no cans or bottles
Range Hours: 9:00 AM to sunset, 7 days a week
You don't need a club membership to shoot. Just buy a range pass:

2026 Upgrade: New proximity card system replaces combination locks. Wave your card at the automated gate sensor for access. Passes are valid one year from purchase date and can be reactivated annually. If your card is lost, there's a replacement fee.
This range enforces strict safety standards:
- •Eye and ear protection MUST be worn in rifle and pistol areas (marked with signs)
- •All firearms discharged downrange only into the berm backstop
- •No birdshot or buckshot into target backers (birdshot allowed during trap shooting only)
- •Full automatic firearms and bump stocks strictly forbidden—violation results in permanent pass revocation
- •Open-toed shoes and crop tops not permitted while shooting
- •Zero tolerance: Alcohol or drug use on premises subject to arrest
Pass holders assume full liability for their actions and agree to hold the association harmless for any injuries.
- •Minimum age: 18 for individual passes
- •Family passes accommodate two adults and two children under 18 living in the same household
- •Children must be accompanied by an adult family pass holder
- •Valid access card or proof of purchase receipt required at all times (risk of criminal trespass charge without it)
- •Adults must carry state-issued driver's license or photo ID
Beyond regular shooting, AVFGA hosts organized events throughout the year:
- •105th Annual Banquet – April 24, 2026 at White Mountain Chalet in Berlin (fundraiser supports range operations and improvements)
- •Trap Shooting – Every Tuesday, 5:00 PM
- •Archery Shoots – Every Thursday, 4:00 PM
- •IBO Competition – May 30-31, 2026
- •Granite State Bow Hunters Shoots – June 7 and August 30, 2026
- •Hunter Education Field Day – April 25, 2026 (classroom at American Legion Post 82 in Gorham; field exam at AVFGA range)
- •Women's Firearms Familiarization Program – May 9, 2026 (six-hour course for women 17+ with little/no firearm experience; hunter education, self-defense, or marksmanship focus)
Organized events require at minimum one Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO). Contact directors to arrange.
Members are expected to maintain the facility:
- •Carry out all targets, brass, and trash ("carry in, carry out")
- •Leave the range in better condition than you found it
- •Close the gate behind you when entering and exiting
- •Report suspicious activity to 911
- •Note: The police range is separate and not part of AVFGA facilities—stay clear of it.
Misuse of any pass results in deactivation and immediate termination of range privileges. Violations include:
- •Firing full automatic weapons or modified firearms
- •Breach of safety rules
- •Failure to maintain the facility
- •Alcohol or drug use
- •Using non-approved targets
Lost access cards are deactivated with a replacement fee charged. Pass holders do not receive refunds for revoked privileges. Reinstatement requires board vote approval and can only occur by purchasing a new pass the following year. Disputes can be contested via email to the Range Pass Coordinator.
AVFGA maintains boats at various ponds throughout the area. Boat pass holders sign out keys at Ray's Corner Store, Route 110, West Milan, NH. Boat passes are valid for the fishing season from full ice-out until winter boat removal.
AVFGA supports Operation Game Thief (wildlife violation reporting) and maintains partnerships with:
