Full description and what we offer
Luna Canyon Outdoor Adventures operates out of Chacon in North Central New Mexico, running guided hunts exclusively on private land in Unit 46. No landowner draw needed—all elk tags are 100% guaranteed. The hunting area borders Carson National Forest to the north, with elevation ranging from 6,700 to 10,000 feet. Terrain varies from flat to mountainous to steep with heavy timber.
80-90% success rate on bulls 5x5 or larger over the past four seasons. Guides consistently harvest 300+ inch bulls, with sightings of 350-class elk. Because it's all private land, you won't compete with other hunters for position or pressure animals.

Archery hunts run during the rut (September 1-24), the most active time to call in bulls. You arrive Friday at noon and hunt through Wednesday—four nights lodging, five full days in the field.
Rifle hunts start as early as October when bulls are still vocal in morning and evening, continuing through December. Same schedule: Friday arrival, four nights, five hunting days.
Cow-only hunts (November 15-December 31) are built for beginners, youth, and hunters focused on filling the freezer. Late-season cows congregate in herds of up to 100 elk, giving you the chance to hand-pick your animal. Note: Effective 2024, cow hunts do not include meals or field preparation—a kitchen and skinning facility are available for client use.
Youth Discount: 10% off all hunts for youth hunters. Luna Canyon sponsors a Wounded Warrior hunt annually—contact for details.
Not included: New Mexico hunting license ($627), gratuity (10-15%), optional 1-on-1 guide fee ($1,500).
Turkey hunts are 3-day packages ($1,250) including one tom turkey, lodging, and a guide.
Prairie dog hunts ($300/person) are one-night packages on private land across from the lodge. Includes lodging, guide setup, shooting benches, and unlimited prairie dog harvest. Non-game hunting license required. You choose your weapon.
James Duran, owner and operator, and his certified guides begin scouting and prepping during off-season—planting food plots, scouting game patterns, setting up tree stands. This advance work directly increases your odds of success. Guides are experienced with Unit 46's terrain and elk behavior.
All hunts are 100% fair chase.
