Tom Tomasi has been teaching handgun and personal protection fundamentals since 2002. His background includes 25 years of federal government service with instructor roles at TVI and DOE/NNSA, plus formal training credentials: NRA Certified Pistol and Personal Protection Instructor, MAG 20 graduate, and New Mexico Department of Safety Concealed Carry certification.
15-Hour Initial CCW License — $150/person or $250/couple - Satisfies New Mexico's training requirement for concealed carry application - Held Saturday & Sunday, 9:00am–4:30pm at City Shooting Park Range - Includes classroom instruction, live fire qualification, certificate, range fees
4-Hour Renewal — $75/person - Required every 4 years to renew your license - Covers law changes, deadly force refresher, application process review, shooting qualification
2-Hour Refresher — $50/person - Midpoint maintenance requirement during your license term - Focuses on reshoot of qualification course
Classes emphasize civilian self-defense scenarios—not military or law enforcement tactics. Course topics include:
- •Mental conditioning and situational awareness
- •Safe handling of revolvers and semiautomatic handguns
- •Modern pistol technique and shooting fundamentals
- •Criminal attack avoidance and confrontation control
- •Concealed carry methods and equipment selection
- •Federal, state, and local handgun laws
- •NM concealed carry application process (detailed walkthrough)
Tomasi's philosophy: "Be Trained, Be Confident, Be Safe" — he builds instruction around solid, proven basics rather than advanced flashiness.
You don't need to own a handgun to take the course. Tomasi has multiple holsters and carry systems available to try. If you do bring your own:
- •Bring unloaded firearms only (ammunition stays outside classroom)
- •You'll need 50 rounds per caliber for qualification
- •NM law lets you qualify with your largest caliber revolver and/or semiauto—anything smaller is then legal to carry
- •Qualification course: 25 rounds total (10 at 7 yards, 15 at 3 yards), 72% minimum pass
