Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association operates as a comprehensive shooting sports organization with multiple divisions serving shooters of all skill levels across the state. Based in Phoenix with operations at Ben Avery Shooting Facility (4044 W Black Canyon Blvd), ASRPA coordinates training, competitions, and marksmanship programs.
ASRPA's Education and Training Division, led by Noble C. Hathaway, develops and delivers courses covering:
Defensive & Self-Defense Training: - ASRPA Defensive Use of Firearms - The original Official DPS Arizona Concealed Weapons Certification Course (since 1995) taught multiple times yearly. Includes free lunch, manuals, and firearm safety/storage instructor certification. Written test required for certificate. - ASRPA Civilian Anti-Terrorist Survival (CATS) Course - Designed after the Pulse nightclub attack, focuses on situational awareness in public spaces (malls, entertainment venues, auditoriums). Free to schools and entities. - ASRPA Arizona Defense Match - Courses on rifle handling, safety, competition, and preparedness. All skill levels welcome with annual state championship.
Modern Sporting Rifle Programs: - Modern Sporting Rifle 101 & 202 Courses - Cover safety, operation, history, models, calibers, and versions. Course 202 includes field work with various sights and targets. - Modern Sporting Rifle Smallbore Course - Family-friendly program with classroom safety/history instruction plus range time. Each firing point has dedicated instructor. Students shoot red dot, scope, iron sights, and various paper/steel targets.
Smallbore & Precision Rifle: - Service Rifle Family Smallbore Course - 12-week winter semester at Ben Avery Small Bore Range, begins January 8, 2026. Cost: $150-$250. - ASRPA Range Safety Officer Course - Taught multiple times yearly or by special arrangement. Free to schools and entities.
Coaching & Instruction: - ASRPA Coaches Certification Course - For pistol, rifle, and shotgun. By appointment or special class. - Firearm Safety and Storage Course Instructor Certification - Tri-fold materials provided free to schools.
