Don's Security Services is a New York State Department of State–approved security guard training school operating in Depew, just outside Buffalo. They've been running firearms and security training for over 30 years, handling everything from pistol permit courses to armed guard certification and annual recertification.
Basic Handgun Training is designed for new permit holders. The course covers safe firearm operation, best practices for responsible ownership, and applicable New York law. Participants get range time to practice marksmanship under professional instruction—no classroom-only approach here.
NYS 16-Hour Concealed Carry Firearms Safety Course is the required course for anyone applying for a pistol permit in New York. This covers the legal framework, safety fundamentals, and hands-on range qualification.
Don's offers all five NYS-mandated security guard courses:

All courses end with written exams and, where applicable, range qualifications. Don's instructors are DCJS-certified to teach these state-mandated courses.
Advanced Pistol Training and Basic Pistol Training go beyond permit requirements for shooters who want more skill development.
Defensive Tactics & Handcuffing courses come in basic and advanced levels—critical for security personnel and law enforcement.
Pepper Spray & Handcuffing Training combines self-defense tools with restraint techniques.
Private Investigations & Surveillance Techniques is a specialty course for investigators or anyone pursuing a PI license. Includes crime scene investigation fundamentals.
Don's can bring instructors to your workplace for exclusive employee training. Weekend and evening hours available so staff don't lose work time. Advance notice required.
Firearms recertification training runs monthly for armed guards whose licenses need renewal. Cost is $125 (paid in advance to secure your range spot). The course satisfies the annual 8-hour requirement: 3 hours on New York Penal Law Article 35 (use of force) plus 5 hours of range instruction and qualification.
