Square Deal Sportsmen started in Endicott in 1947 but relocated in the 1980s when the original property was sold for housing development. The club purchased its current site in Glen Aubrey, NY in 1986 and began construction immediately. All ranges are built into the hillside with protective berms running along the sides—a smart design that contains noise and backstop debris.
- •Rifle Range #1 features 15 covered firing points at 300 meters. Any legal firearm is allowed. Members are responsible for checking downrange before shooting.
- •Rifle Range #2 opened soft in June 2025 with 24 firing points at 700 yards. Still under final construction but fully operational for shooting. No spikes on concrete. Range access is controlled—nobody past the 300-yard mark unless Range #1 is shut down and a Range Officer is present controlling both ranges. Members provide their own target stands, targets, and are responsible for cleanup.
A 600-yard range is currently under construction.
Bench sponsorships available for the 700-yard range at $300 each with donor nameplate.
Pits 1-5 have covered structures and tables to keep gear dry and off the ground. Pit 1 is closest to the clubhouse; Pit 8 closest to the gate. Traditional pistol calibers and .22lr rifles only—centerfire rifles use the rifle range. Members bring their own target stands and targets, though the club occasionally leaves used cardboard targets available.
- •USPSA Matches: First Sunday of the month, March through November. Matches start at 10am and typically include 6 stages with 1 USPSA classifier. Setup happens the Saturday before; Pits 7 & 8 remain available during setup.
- •High Power Rifle Matches (2025): Three sanctioned matches following CMP rules—June 14, July 12, and August 9. 50-round National Match format with reduced 200-yard distance. Two relays start at 9:30am (arrival 8:30am). $10 entry per relay. Pre-registration required through Anthony Hanakovic.
- •F-Class Matches (2025): Ten 300-yard matches on dates including April 19, May 10/24, June 7/28, July 26, August 23, September 13/27, and October 11. 40 rounds for record with unlimited sighters. Front rest or bipod with rear bag. .22 to .35 caliber rifles welcome. $10 entry ($10 optional for prize pot).
The club periodically sponsors CMP-sanctioned two-day clinics taught by certified master instructors. Day one covers classroom instruction and afternoon live fire. Day two is a high power match. You'll learn standing, sitting, and prone positions plus competition fundamentals. Class limited to 10 participants.
Square Deal hosts DEC-certified volunteer-taught hunter education courses covering firearms safety, hunting techniques, and ethical practices. Required for all hunting licenses including bowhunting. The club acts as facility host; DEC certified instructors conduct classes.
