Full description and what we offer

Capt. Froggy's is a family-owned and operated guide service with deep roots in eastern North Carolina hunting culture. The captain holds USCG License #1103796 with over 20 years of guiding experience, and the team includes experienced guides Randy Thornton and Chris Hickman, plus two Chesapeake Bay retrievers (Ginger and Sage).

"We do a great deal of scouting and go to the ducks, not just hunt a blind because it is there."

  • September Combo Hunts - Goose and dove hunting the same day. Morning goose hunt (float blind or corn field), afternoon dove in the fields. Typical take: good numbers of geese plus limits of dove (15 each per person).
  • October Early Wood Duck Season - First Wednesday-Saturday targets the early migration in swamps and creeks. November main duck season picks up woodies, mallards, and teal in the same productive water.
  • Open Water Duck Hunts - Float blinds in western Pamlico Sound near Englehard. Large decoy spreads targeting redheads, bluebills, pintails, gadwall, wigeon, brant, ringnecks, teal, black ducks, and sea ducks.
  • Snow Goose Hunts - November through mid-March on farmland in northeastern NC. February and March are peak season with large numbers. 25-bird daily bag limit per person. Large spread and electric calls.
  • Swan Hunts - December and January in wheat fields. NC Wildlife permit required (captain handles logistics). Guaranteed hunts.

Guides hunt swamps and creeks early season, partner with local farmers for goose and Canada goose hunting on large parcels, and access the Pamlico Sound—historically one of the most famous open water duck hunting areas on the East Coast. The Englehard/Gull Rock area near Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge offers mixed species hunts: puddle ducks, sea ducks, divers, swans, and geese. Guides often harvest five or six different species in a single day.

Guides stay with you the entire hunt. They bring retrievers but welcome yours. Large center console boats handle open Pamlico Sound conditions.
