Columbus Self-Defense teaches you to survive real violence—not win a competition. Located in Westerville inside Infinity Fitness on Hoff Rd, CSD takes a logic-based approach that covers everything sport martial arts ignore: de-escalation, self-defense law, awareness, weapon tactics, and when you're actually justified to use force.
Here's the core difference: MMA, Jiu-Jitsu, and kickboxing train you under competition rules. That means you learn to ignore targets like eyes, fingers, and groin. You practice submissions that leave you exposed to weapon attacks. You develop habits that feel right in the cage but can get you convicted in court. Self-defense law doesn't care about your black belt—it cares whether you can articulate why your response was necessary and proportional.
Every CSD training program builds around six critical areas:
Empowerment Session ($99, up to 4 people, 1 hour) Ideal for beginners with zero prior experience. In 60 minutes you cover awareness, self-defense law, strategic planning, and a few simple physical techniques. Schedule whenever works for you—flexible booking, no class times.
Group Seminar ($25/person, minimum 5 people, 1 hour) Bring coworkers, friends, or your team. CSD handles it at your location or theirs. Same fundamentals as the Empowerment Session, perfect for building group safety awareness.
Striking Defense Course ($299, 4 one-hour sessions) Specialized training for countering punches while staying on your feet. Hands-on contact work designed to simulate real scenarios. Expect a workout.
Ground Defense Course ($299, 4 one-hour sessions) Focus on defending yourself while pinned and regaining your feet. Four intensive one-hour sessions packed with contact training to handle being held on the ground.
Online Course ($29, self-paced access) 2-hour video course covering awareness, de-escalation, auto safety, self-defense tools, and self-defense law. No physical techniques—pure strategy you can implement immediately.
Training starts at 16 years old (younger minors welcome if training with a parent or older sibling). No prior martial arts experience required. Everything is taught for real-world application—you wear normal clothes, no mats, no belts, no competition rules.
